In an attempt to offset the intense feelings of despair and offer a sense of hope for the community’s youth we are focused in serving the community through academic enhancement.

MYOC’s Academic Enhancement Studies and Computer Learning Center provides children of elementary and middle school grades a place to study in a safe environment.  They are encouraged to improve computer skills in conjunction with their academic skills.   Students focus on developing skills to assist them to focus on homework assignments in math, reading comprehension and writing.  Fun and learning activities include science projects and basic research.  Thoughout the program, computer skills and educational software is used in reinforcing subject materials.   Students are offered a wide variety of activities to meet their academic and social needs such as Tutoring & Mentoring with Standardized & State Test Preparation.  Planned activities incorporate input solicited from the students, their teachers and parents.

The program is intentionally designed to promote violence prevention and conflict resolution.  The techniques students are taught include pro-social skills such as anger management, perspective taking, peer resistance, effective communication and problem solving.
